We have a 1920's fireplace. It has what looks like 4x4 ceramic tile on the floor from the outside hearth to the back of the firebox. It appears to be in good shape. Unfortunately, one of the prior owners of our house covered this tile with 1970s bathroom floor tile which is breaking apart and looks terrible. We need to have the 1970s tile removed, and possibly the 1920's tile also, and have the hearth and firebox floor re-tiled. We need someone who really knows what they're doing with respect to materials and workmanship, as fires will be built on the grate on top of the tile in the firebox. We really don't know where to start -- fireplace expert? Tile expert? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jen Bought house in S.O. in 1999 and still renovating.
