So, is most vinyl fencing cheezy looking? Also, if you have wood (cedar?) did you just leave it unfinished or paint it?

One more "good neighbor" question--if you are going to put up fencing on a property line on which currently there is no fencing, do you just go tell your neighbors or leave a note? Or is that not necessary? I dont want to offend...

Thanks!

- Yes it is cheezy.
- I left it unfinished. The fencing guy said it eventually all goes gray anyway.
- I'd tell them.

i agree with wendy. cheezy. i had a cedar fence installed last spring and left it unfinished...it is fading to a nice, vintage-y light grey (think cape cod cedar shingle cottage). i didn't make a special point of telling any of my neighbors, behind or either side. when they got home and saw the fence they figured it out. it's on my property, why do i have to tell them? including your neighbors opens you up to their 2 cents.

Cheesy. I stained my fence white - so it looks
white-ish, but not stark...more like milk paint.

I told all neighbors just because, while I didn't ask opinions or try to schedule around them, I wanted them to be aware of the noise and strangers on our property. None of our neighbors were anything but thankful.

PS. I LOVED Artistic Fence. They did a great job.

Vinyl anything is a no-no in my book. Except music.

We told our neighbors about the fence ahead of time and asked them about putting a gate on their side, which we did.

We did aluminum fence and it looks like cast iron. Supposedly zero mainanence. Here's a site with examples:

We actually used Artistic Fence, though.

With wood, there's rot. Aluminum doesn't rot or rust!
