We're buying a new entry door and want to paint it. What's the best way to do this? The person at Lowes suggested having it painted at an auto body shop? This sounds a bit crazy - there must be an easier way to still have it look good.

Did they really say that? If I was in management at Lowe's I'd fire that guy for not seizing the opportunity to send you to the paint departmnt. Here's what you do: Buy a paint brush, some primer and some paint and then you.....paint it. I've seen lots of doors painted around here and I've never seen anyone do anything other than paint it with a brush. I guess you could take it off the hinges and spray it if you have one of those.
