Hello! I want to put up a privacy fence around my backyard this spring. Questions: 1) any recommendation re: type of fencing and companies who do this 2) any town ordinances - do i need to geta permit 3) also - does the 'good' side face my neighbors or my yard (my neighbor has a horrible wood fence with the backside facing our property) thank you |

Tom's Fencing. Yes, you need a permit. Good side faces neighbor. Has to be four feet tall. The exception being you are allowed something like 16 feet (length wise) of 6 foot high fence. We used our 16 feet to screen the "" end of our neighbor's house, including their garbage cans. |

TOM’S FENCING 908-272-5692 Tom used to live here and has been putting up fence in Maplewood for a long time. He'll know all about the applicable rules and regulations. |

Try Carmine's Landscaping at 973-763-6626, they did a fence for us last year, couldn't be happier. |

You can put a 4-foot fence around your entire yard. If by "privacy fence" you mean surrounding your entire yard with a 6-foot fence, you are not allowed to do that. |

It is my understanding that the fence must be on your side of the property line also... not 'straddling' the line. I don't know if there's a distance requirement (i.e. 3 inches?). |
