Looking to see if anyone has a good reference for blow in insullation for the ballon construction houses around here. Did you feel like it made a difference comfort wise and with fuel economy?
thanks

Jeff

Had cellulose blown into my old house...made a huge difference in comfort level and utility bill. Divine Energy was the company. If you do a search in the Home Fix-it thread you will find their number.

It depends on the size of your house and what you need done. We had this done a little over a year ago in a different house than we are in now. We had insulation blown into all exterior walls, two attic crawl space areas, insulation of crawl space under a small extension (10x12), and the rim joist insulated along the perimeter of the basement for about $2700. The original estimate came in at about $3100 because that included blowing in insulation in the floor of the attic. When they started the job they realized that the attic floor was packed with rock wool and didn't need any more insulation, so they recalculated the bill down. To give you an idea of size, the house was a typical 3 bedroom, 1 bath up, livingroom, diningroom, expanded kitchen down.

We used Flesher Home Improvements and were pleased with the job and the results. I know I've posted about this before and I'll try to find the thread, which also has his phone number, because I don't seem to have it handy.

Thanks for all the advice. If the walls are filled with insullation and then a wall needs to be taken down for construction, does the insullation stick to the outer wall or just fall out? Also-any problems with pulling electrical wires throught this stuff. I also have knob and tube wiring that will need to be replaced.

The knob and tube wiring has to be replaced before you blow in insulation. Otherwise it's a fire risk (the conductors may overheat).
