After the fall/winter, our lawn is littered with acorns from our oaks / squirrels. How big a deal is it to leave them on the lawn? If we should remove them, what's the best way (besides hiring someone to vacuum them up)?

Your squirrels are doing their best to remove them. There seem to be more acorns this year because of last summer's low rainfall. Don't worry about any special way to remove them. You won't notice them once the grass begins to grow. |

I paid our kids (5 & 6) one penny per nut - they each made about $3 and had a great time with the counting lesson! |

Great question. I've been avoiding thinking about it and asking about it. Although I was tempted to hose down the lawn to make the soil stay put and then try the vacuum. THEN I was going to spread fertilizer. I almost want to know how badly that would go wrong. At least I wasn't going to spread the fertilzer first. Pdg do your kids hire out? KRNL, aren't they each going to grow into a tree? If not, why not? J.B. |

Many will grow into trees if left undisturbed. However, studies have shown that trees sprouting in lawns cannot compete effectively against lawnmowers. |
