Can anyone suggest someone they have worked with before to do an interior design consultation? We just closed on our house on Monday, and went ahead and booked New Colors to do the painting. It is feeling a bit daunting to pick out colors for EVERY room in the house, and we know that going all white or neutral is not an option for us. Also, we have inherited some furniture to fill the house, and although it is not all our taste, I am sure miracles can be done with it simply based on how it should be arranged. I have watched enough hours of HGTV in the last month to know that there is hope. :-) I just want someone to come for an hour or two and set us on the right track, not someone who will be picking out furniture and fabric and shopping for us. Thanks! |

Hi Rose, In addition to my husband doing handyman/contractor work, I am a home stager. My home has appeared in the Star Ledger for the funky things I do with garage sale finds and vintage items. I would be pleased to come and look at your home. I am reasonable and a good listener. I would also invite you to view my home for ideas if you'd like. PL me or call 973.761.1735. Sherri |

Rose1 - We used a local design consultant when we bought our new house in Maplewood. She did a wonderful job helping us do exactly what you need - pick paint colors, finishes, fabrics. Her name is Wendy and she runs her own firm called The Style Guide. Her contact number is 973-378-3758. |

There's a nice woman, spacing on her name, who has a company called Matamorphosis - she's a designer who will work with what you've got and figure it all out. 973-902-1011. |

Ricciardi Design Center (Springfield Ave, Maplewood) also has a paint color design service, I'm not sure about other things (furniture, etc.), I think they do window treatments also. I just looked into the paint color service, they are very affordable and half the price can be applied toward their Benjamin Moore paint. |

We did a similar project about this time last year and are thrilled with the results. We used Kirsten Briggs, she did a colour consultation with lots of ideas , experience and a final palette that worked with our existing stained glass window, fireplace and furniture. The whole house was vastly improved by a few simple faux finishing ideas which really made a difference - a faux brick fireplace in tones pulled from surrounding rooms and a striped glaze in our dining room. She's not so competitive on straight painting but worth the investment for a few faux finishing touches. www.kirstenbriggsstudios.com |

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions. We ended up meeting with Ardith Prial today, who someone private messaged me about, and we were very happy with the experience. We spent two hours and picked all the paint colors and got ideas for window treatments, the fireplace, and other odds and ends. It was really a valuable experience, and I would recommend her if someone else is looking. Her website is www.undecorator.com. Now I can't wait to see what all of the choices lead to... :-) |
