We had a quote for new front steps from Carmine's and are inclined to go ahead with them. In addition to checking the references they provided, we were also curious to get feedback from anyone else who has used them. Any comments, positive or negative, are much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm interested too in the feedback--they just provided us a quote too--although I'm still recovering from the sticker shock. Just curious--mw--did you get more than one quote? How did Carmine's compare?

My suggestion when working with Carmine's is to deal with his son Matt. Tell him about the sticker shock and see if he has any cost saving suggestions. Sometimes, it's easier to set a budget and find out what they can do within those parameters.

We called a number of companies either advertising on MOL or recommended on MOL. While more money than I would like to spend, all the quotes were within $100-$200 of each other. I believe it was Matt who came out to do the Carmine's quote. My husband felt very comfortable with him and the fact that a) he was willing to give written estimates, b) wrote up 2 separate estimates, one of which was the *cheaper* way to go using different materials and c) he showed up when he was supposed to, dropped off the written estimates when he said he would and provided a list of references with names, addresses and phone numbers. His was by far the most professional approach. I was just hoping to get a bit more feedback. As you said, Jennifer, it is not an inconsiderable amount.

SO Ref - have you used Carmine's? How would you rate them? Feel free to PM me.

We used Carmines and I was most impressed by their honesty and reliability. They turned up, cleaned up etc. Matt is very easy to deal with and he won't spend your money unnecesarily. I'm not that particular but I'd say they did a good job and when I saw something I didn't like I told them, they changed it no question. However I would still recommend you ask to see a job similar to yours so you can see the quality first hand - everyone's expectations of good/better/best is different.
