My 4 year old daughter is desperate for a pink bedroom. I must admit I am not a huge fan of pink. However, we're thinking about about agreeing to paint her room, provided we can find the right shade. Any suggestions? I'm terrified of the room looking like pepto bismol! I would like a nice soft color, preferably on the warm side (if that's possible with pink, I'm not sure). I was looking at the Restoration Hardware paints....any experience with them out there? Thanks! |

We've just decorated our living room with paint from Restoration Hardware - no it wasn't pink! - and we were really pleased with the quality of it. It's non-drip paint so no paint splatters when using the roller. It was $30 per gallon..I bought far more than we needed but they will let you return unopened cans as the paint is pre-mixed. I would definitely use RH paint again. |

Riccardi Paints has a bunch of Benjamin Moore sample containers that cost around $2 and you can test the paint in the room. We used "Ribbon Pink", and although it looks light in the container it is VERY pink, although on the light side. But the "bubblegum pink" carpet (yes that is the actual name of the color) doesn't help the pinkness. But the 5 and 2 year olds LOVE the room. My friend just went with more of a salmon color in her daughter's room and it looks fabulous. Benjamin Moore as well but don't remember the color name. It is pretty saturated, but with the white trim and hardwood floor it looks wonderful. |

I'm about to put Peppermint by Ben Moore on our 2 year olds room. It was the lightest pink I could find without going white with a pink tint. |

If the kid wants a pink room, let her have a pink room. One of the rooms in the house we have purchased was actually painted what our daughter called "tarp blue". It is now a nice restful light green thanks to the efforts of World of Colors. I kinda doubt you will find "tarp blue" in the Benjamin Moore catalogue. |

My niece has a very pretty striped pink room. The stripes are spaced about 1 foot apart. The shades of pink are very light and compliment each other. Having the two shades gives my sister-in-law some options as far as finding matching linens, and it's a design that will grow with the child.

My daughter was desperate for a pink bedroom but we painted it sky blue....and gave it pink accessories, bedding etc. She loves it but if we need to put her brother in there anytime it'll easily change !! |

You guys have it made. My son wants a Nickelodeon themed room especially after we spent three days at the Nick hotel in Orlando. Wouldn't you know that Lowe's has a whole paint section devoted to Nick cartoons! |

When you pick the color, just be aware that it will end up looking more intense than the sample cards will lead you to believe. When we moved into our current home, our older daughter, at the tender age of two and a half, wanted her new bedroom to be pink. So, we picked what we thought was a reasonably pale shade. Once it was on the walls, it wasn't pale at all and now younger sister is living with a much pinker room than either of them would like. (Big sister, who was responsible for the color selection, wanted to have a separate bedroom at some point as she approached teenager-hood. Little sister got the choice of which room and desided to endure pink in order to have the bigger room.) |

Before my 1st was born we painted her room 4 different primary colors, red, yellow, blue and green (ok green is technically NOT a primary color). Colors were VERY vibrant and the room looked great. Fast foward 5 years and the now 2 girls decide they want to share a room and want it to be pink. So the hubster, who is no expert painter, slaps primer and 2 coats of light pink over the primary colors and voila. As pink as anyone could ask for. It's only paint. You can always redo it. Don't be afraid of color. FWIW I'd rather paint the walls than the trim, so I'd just leave the trim white. Unless I'm paying someone else to do it! |

Wendy, me too! Painting trim is a big pain. If the trim is creamy white, it can work with just about any color wall. If she wants a pink room, I'd suggest finding bedding or a pillow or rug, and pulling the most neutral pink from it. Even my daughters' bright blue rug from Ikea has a soft pink in it, and when we were choosing colors I told the girls to choose a color from the rug. (Luckily they chose yellow.) |

A couple of suggestions if you are under duress to paint the room pink (I'm in a similar situation with my daughter wanting a purple room - I'm not crazy about purple rooms): Paint two walls pink and two another color (red if you want to be bold, or sage green with a lighter pink if you want to be more shabby chic). You can get an area rug and comforter that has both colors. You can also paint the walls some shade of pink and then paint large (or mixed sized) dots around the room in white if you want a mellow look or red and orange for a bolder, fun look. I would embrace the pink if I were you and just concentrating on making her room exactly what she wants (with a few tweaks to make it a bit more tolerable for you - i.e. add other colors). I would even suggest hanging brightly colored chinese paper lanterns or large fabric butterflies or colorful strings of flags from the ceiling. Fun. |

My granddaughter has a lavender room. With white trim, it's quite pretty. Only now, after 3 years, she's changed her mind and her favorite color is now blue. |

Thanks everyone. She actually has a yellow room now with a pink and yellow comforter and other pink accessories. Not pink enough for her taste, though. I will embrace the pink! |

If you are thinking about shapes/designs on the walls on top of the pink paint, consider these (rather than painted sahpes, which will leave a subtle impression even when eventually painted over): http://www.velocityartanddesign.com/blik_main.html We used the robots in one kid room - they were super easy & look great

We also used some things called "wallies". Ours were from The Company Store and were flowers. They are basically stickers for the wall, but they peel right off and can be reused. They look adorable. We also have the hanging butterflies from Pottery Barn. So to reiterate, my girls' room has: - Ribbon Pink walls - Bubblegum Pink carpet - Flower wallies - Hanging butterflies - Oh and small wooden toy castle as well To think I was hoping for tomboys. |

doula - great website. Yes, if you paint shapes on your wall, they have to be sanded before repainting or you will see the impression. There are some great wall "stickers" out there. |

I haven't tried these paints yet, but I think I'm going to love them: http://www.citronpaint.com/ I'm going to spring for the whole-line sample kit and at least paint a closet to see how it works out. |

We used Benjamin Moore antique pearl for my daughter's room, more of a lavender, but it's "pink-y," really nice and not too loud. |
