Can anyone recommend an exterminator skilled at getting rid of carpenter ants? Thanks.

A-Eastern Pest Control (973) 736-5041. I've used them for carpenter ants, cave crickets, honey bees, carpenter bees and mice. Very reasonable and offer a period of guarantee.

Have to admit, that after seeing what they do, I often treat myself now by using the massive amounts of advice on www.bugspray.com. I usually buy their recommended products as well (usually can't find them in Home Depot, etc.).

One useful tip from that website is to sprinkle granules of ant bait around trees near your house, which is where the ants are likely migrating from. You also could buy a pymethrin spray and treat the outside of your house a foot from the foundation and 2 feet up the side of the house. It creates a barrier that lasts a few months and insects won't cross it. The ants that go into your house leave a scent trail for others to follow and they won't follow if the spray is there. The ones inside will establish an indoor colony if they find a food supply, so clean well and try to keep them from finding a food source.

Another tip I learned from our exterminator who was here to treat for carpenter bees last spring. The next door neighbors were having a couple trees removed and the exterminator noticed the guy and told me to look out for carpenter ants migrating after the tree is removed b/c practically all the trees in NJ have carpenter ants in them.

Good luck, its that time of year again!
