I'd like to get my very old snowblower given the once- (or twice-)over before I retire it to the back of the garage for the season. Any idea who does such a thing?

I would spray all moving parts with WD-40 for a start to prevent rust. Drain all the gas out of the tank or add a fuel stabilizer so that you'll have no problems with the fuel system.

If you really want to be good to the engine, remove the spark plugs and fill the cylinders with oil.

Of course, you'll have to do additional work in the fall to get it back on its feet, but I think it'll be well worth it.

Thanks for the info, but I probably should have been more explicit in my original post. I'm looking for someone to do this for me. I've got enough going on with a 6-week old son and my business.

So, I'll pose the question again: Know any places that do snowblower maintenance (and hopefully pick-up and drop-off) ?

Thanks!

P&P Lawnmower can probably handle it - they're next to Maplewood hobby, corner of springfield and (I think) Broadview.

JonSel,

P&P has been very helpful in the past. I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

DO NOT follow Case's advice. Your arm will fall off, or the starter motor will burn out before you get the snowblower started again.

I do not winterize the lawnmower or sumerize the snowblower. After the tune-up, start it now and then and let it run for twenty to thirty minutes. I find its easier.

How strange - I load the Harley's engine with oil every year, and after letting it drain and changing the plugs it works just fine.

Oh well....

P&P Lawnmower will come pick up your snowblower (and your lawnmower if you want to get that serviced for the season) and return it to you for a reasonable fee. I do it all the time - just leave the machine in your driveway, they stop by and get it and return it there after it is finished. The bill arrives about 1 week later. (973) 763-6637

I couldn't even tell you where the spark plugs and cylinders on the snowblower are. And, I don't want to know! But I'm sure that technique works just great.

I'm not really summerizing the thing. I got it used from a family member 3 years ago (it's probably 12 years old at least) and haven't done any kind of maintenance on it since. I've never even checked the oil! Now it's got a flat tire and a bit of rust so I figure it's about time.

I'll give P&P a shot. Thanks for the recs.

If you dont use the snowblower very much, as a practical matter, you dont need to be doing annual oil changes. Just run the blower until the gas tank runs dry and thats really it. That procedure will work fine for several years before you need to be changing filters and plugs.

Apparently, I live in the sticks and am too far away from P&P to pick up my blower. (BTW, I live in West Orange...). I can't take it in myself because all I've got is a Mini Cooper!

So, any other recommendations for someone that might actually make the 15 minute trip to West Orange?

Thanks

Try McManus on Scotland Road in Orange. Ask for Tom.

Case,

How do you drain the oil from the cylinders?
