We have aluminum siding on our house. It was there when we bought it. It's white, and is starting to look pretty dingy. What kind of maintenance can we do? Or-- better yet-- can we hire someone to make it look clean & sparkly & white again? Thanks! |

You could hire someone to remove it (see my recent related posting about vinyl siding in an earlier thread).

Be carefull with the power washing, this will most of the time leave you being forced to paint it. Old siding oxidizes, then when you power wash it it goes right down to the raw aluminum.

We are in the same boat. I have heard that it can get rusty from power washing. I have also heard that it can be painted and can look really nice.

Anotherkittie, Ask people living in a neigborhood with 80 year old nicely preserved homes if they think their neighbors aluminum siding installation looks nice. I think they will quickly disabuse you of this silly notion. Whats wrong with conventional siding and a tasteful paintjob? Am I missing something? |

I'm not sure what you are getting at, but I am sure your tone is not friendly. Am I the one who is missing something? I have a nice 80+ year old home. Like the OP of this thread, the aluminum siding "was there when we bought it." My response was simply to let Opranos know that I am facing the same dilemma and that it has been suggested to me that painting can be a good solution.

Oh wait Big Head. I just read your first response. If you want, you can pay me to have the aluminum siding on my house replaced with something more akin to the original. |

Me too, me too! I have vinyl siding, would be happy to have someone pay to remove it. Meanwhile, how does powerwashing do on vinyl? |

Don't forget they need to restore the exterior of your house to it's original beauty. |
