At the end of my street, which feeds onto a main road in Maplewood, the house on the left hand corner has a large evergreen in the front yard. When I am preparing to make a right turn off my street onto the main street, I have to roll several feet into the intersection in order to see if there is any oncoming traffic, and pray each time that I am not going to get slammed by something that was already coming. It seems so obviously unsafe. How does one handle this situation?

A - Approach the homeowner (whom I do not know)
B - Voice concerns to the township
C - Chainsaw in the middle of the night

Extra credit: I am not a Maplewood resident. Does this affect the answer?

That's a good one. I don't think it should affect the answer.

I don't like C. A seems awkward at best. B seems... how to say this... 'iffy'.

I don't suppose there's another route you could take?

It does sound like it's a real problem for you, and that sucks. I'm just not sure if there IS a reasonable solution. I don't think the township would pay to remove the tree, and I'd be surprised if the homeowner would leap to incur such a cost.

M..

Not a easy situation....

Is this tree "totally" in the garden or has it bent/grown over the sidewalk and road? If it is "outside" of her garden, they maybe it is down to the town if they were notified that it is a genuine and potential hazard to drivers as it has created a blindspot. If it is all in her garden then I really don't know what you could do.

I think I would go with B. If it is a hazard to you, it is a hazard to others. What the town will do, I don't know, but that's where I would start.

There are things like that all over town. When we moved here, there were a bunch of shrubs at our corner. I always hated them and we finally had them removed.

Many neighbors thanked us. We did it purely for aethetics, but apparently made a buch of people happy. Unfortunately, our cop who used to sit behind them and speed trap also left, since we took away his cover.

No one had ever said anything to us about them. Well, except for the neighborhood jerk (he's a jerk about all kinds of things) who said "you should really take those down; they make it hard for me to cross that street."

Oh? Just for you I should relandscape?
