We are looking for a 6 ft. kitchen table with a farm house/rustic look to it. I've been looking online at woodworkers in Pennsylvania Dutch Country as well as other parts of the country. Prices seem to vary widely ($700 to over $2000). Any one have any experience they can share? Thanks! |

I have a maple one. Maybe not as rustic looking as you are looking for, but the way we abuse it, it eventually will be! The manufacturer is Moosehead. It has 3 leaves and a drawer on each end. We ordered ours from Berkshire Furniture on Rt. 22 about 9 years ago. I highly recommend it and them...we paid about $700 or so. http://www.mooseheadfurniture.com You can choose the finish and leg style, ours is a farmhouse style leg, but not too bulky. Initially I didn't want leaves, but I must say, as we eat in our dining room each night (it's open to the kitchen) it has been helpful to make it slightly smaller or larger to seat up to 12 people. We usually use it with 2 leaves. |

I just took a chance and ordered one from someone in Atlanta. I loved the look of it and he could customize it with a specific Ben Moore color I wanted. The price was $1050 for a 48" table. I think the price may be a little high for the size I ordered, but as I found with most places, they typically don't have prices for something smaller than 60". I also paid additional for the custom color. I think you can get a standard 60" table in the $900 range (not including shipping). I haven't received it yet, so I can't tell you how it is in person but from what I've seen, I think it'll be great. He has an ebay store at http://stores.ebay.com/Pine-and-Cherry-Custom-Furniture. Here's a picture of the one I ordered.

You might be able to use half of Jay's desk. He could beat on it with a chain to make it look old.

I purchased almost exactly the same table from Dutch country recently. Saw the table online but felt uncomfortable buying it so I actually drove down to check it out. The prices were very good (I'll never look at Pottery Barn / Restoration Hardware prices again)... I bought a 96" country table very similar to the one in the pic above that has extentions that will allow seating for 8-10 people for $750. For that price I was afraid it was made of cheapo pressed composite wood or imported from overseas. The visit allayed my fears. The material was good stuff... the weight of the table top alone took 2-3 of us to move into my kitchen. Also got matching Windsor chairs for less than half what they sell at Restoration. The guy I dealt with was super nice and the transaction was perfect. He was very accomodating to me. I don't recall the name of the store now but private line me if interested and I'll search. I liked what I saw so much I bought other stuff from him. Seems like he and his partners source unfinished and unassembled parts from the same places that Pottery Barn / Restoration uses and then does the finishing (to your spec). |

We actually got one of these from Richard Roberts in Maplewood a few years ago; under a $1000, and we love it. If he doesn't have any in stock I'm sure they could be ordered.

I just received this from an email list I'm on:
Quote: Subject: Table for sale in Westfield - $40.00 From: <rosied@comcast.net> I have a solid butcher block table I've been using as a "center island" in my kitchen. It's in very good condition---has one large drawer that can be opened from two sides, and a shelf on the bottom. It's on wheels that can be removed if desired. It measures 34" high, 18" deep, 30" wide. It can also be used to hold a microwave or for extra "counter" space.
