We desperately need a chimney cleaning, but I don't want to get ripped off.

Any suggestions?

We have used Top Hat & Tails (Bob Harris) several times. He is honest and will only do what needs to be done. Do a search in the archives. He is recommended regularly by others on MOL.

I second Top Hat and Tails, reliable, honest and did a great job. He won't try to sell you a chimney liner if you don't need one.

Get your lazy husband to stop worrying about his manicure and do some work around the house.

Happy Mother's day :-)

Beware of the chimney cleaner who tells you need a cage on the top. Everytime they have come to our house's (plural) they tell us the same thing.

Good luck

Why would you advise against the cage? Don't you want to prevent animals from coming down?

Oh MittenReckitt,

You are a silly, silly man/boy/manboy. I think X-man was refering to something else. Of course you need a cage to stop the doggie from making it down the chimney and into your bedroom. The comment was about needing a new cage -- a revenue source for the crooked chimney cleaners. Duh!
