I planted two of these last fall and they survived the winter. They are losing leaves, which I attributed to transplant shock. Now, there are some very fast growing stalks coming out of the top of it, but the bottom remains leafless. What is happening? J.B. |

We had a similiar problem last year. Pierson's said they needed iron which they sell and we applied and it helped. Run it by them. |

Most Hollies lose their leaves this time of the year. |

I have a very leggy holly. It has some leafeless stalks with bushy fast growing ends. The lower clump still has its leaves, but is very reluctant to grow. I'll try the iron. |

I don't have a variegated holly, but mine did begin life as a leggy plant. I cut half of it back last Spring and have been trimming wayward branches. It's improved quite a bit. |
