My garage was flooded this morning. I have a sump pump in my garage, but I think some leaves and other crap got stuck in the intake points and it wasn’t sucking out the water. I reached in and felt around for the pump and cleared away a bit of the stuff and the flow increased significantly. Not sure I cleared it all out, though. My question is this: is there any danger in reaching my hand in there? Could I lose a finger or get electrocuted or anything like that? I want to clear it out more, but I’m a bit nervous.

Hey Paul, The pump wiring should be insulated, but you DEFINATELY want to unplug it before you stick your hand in there. There's really nothing sharp or otherwise dangerous that you have to worry about, but if you want to really clean it well, you should disconnect it and pull it out of the pit so you can see what your doing, and then reinstall it. -Dave |

Thanks, Dave. I'll have to take a look at how it's installed to see if taking it out and cleaning it is within my limited capabilities. |
