Other than Home Depot or Lowes, can anyone suggest a place to buy a lawnmower? While not as anal as Jersey Boy and his sissors to cut around the bulbs in his front yard, I'm a little bit controlling when it comes to my garden and lawn. Alas this is the first year I need to actually mow my own lawn and I do not have a lawnmower. I fear our neighbors are about to call code enforcement on us because I put down grass seed and fertilizer a few months ago and our lawn is now an overgrown mess. Help! |

Costco. They've got a decent one out there now with a Honda engine and they've got something else that makes it a great buy...a lifetime, no questions asked money back guarantee. If you're not happy with it three years from now, just bring it back. |

Having decided to go back to being Farmer Bob, we bought one of the Costco mowers and are pleased with it. The Honda engine always starts on the first pull and is basically automatic, no throttle, it senses how much power is needed. The wheels are easy to adjust for height and it does a good, but not great job of mulching. We bought the one with rear wheel drive and it is easy to control the pace of the mower along the ground. Since your lawn is overgrown, make the first pass with the mower set as high off the ground as possible. It was a little over $325, which is a bargain. It is made by Poulon. |

A reel mower is a nice environmentally friendly way to mow your lawn, just do not let it grow too long otherwise you'll find it difficult to get a good cut. If you want to go the powered route, and your lawn isn't too big, have you considered an electric mower? I bought an 18" Black & Decker lawn hog mulching mower a couple of years back (from H.D.) - does a pretty decent job on the lawn, doesn't weigh too much, and, because it is less noisy than a gas-powered mower, keeps my neighbors a bit happier when I'm mowing early on Saturday morning. I've got a 100ft heavy gauge cable that lets me reach all parts of the lawn. Just make sure you have a GFCI protected outlet to plug it into... The only thing I'd like it to have is a roller, for that 'English lawn striping effect'. But then again, I wouldn't want my neighbors to feel that I'm obsessed with my lawn ;) Jason |

Try P&P. When I was shoping for a mower last year, their price was only $25 to $30, more than HD for virtually the same Toro machine. Although I must admit that the Costco guarantee makes for one great deal. TomR |

Second the recommendation for P&P in Maplewood (973) 763-6637. They have the best service and very fair prices on Toros. (I bought mine from them last spring and have been extremely pleased.) |
