Not a very demanding job in terms of skill... we just need to do a complete tear-out of our basement prior to mold-remediation, waterproofing, and renovation.

It's the mold that concerns me, because we know we have some and don't know how bad it is behind the existing basement walls. Does that mean we ought to limit our choices for the tear-out to remediation crews in suits? Or should we offer the job to any group of insured handymen in the interest of just getting it done? Like everything else, this job is drifting down the calendar and I've really got to get it done.

First the handyman would have to rip everything out in order to see what kind of damage is behind your walls. If it is minor, then the handyman could fix this with a good cleaning with bleach. The walls would have to be left open for a time in order for everything to dry out and see what is going on. However, if after the walls are ripped out you have major mold/fungus then yes, the men in suits would have to come in and seal everything off to do their thing.

notehead:
We are remodeling specialists, I have a few men on my crew that I could send to
demo the basement. If you'd like me to stop by early next week to take a look,
I'd be happy to estimate the demo for you. I don't do mold removal though.
My website is regacontracting.com. or email me at rrtrd2@aol.com or give me a call at 1800 234-9592

Notehead: Trying giving Bogie and Cy "The House Guys" a call. I'm sure they can help you with your dilemna. They just finished an amazing basement remodel in Maplewood. Bogie is a Maplewood resident and my neighbor. I've seen some of the amazing work he's done. A true artist! 973-478-9318

We had George of JGberkeley rip out parts of our basement due to rot and mold problems. The work was quick and clean.

We have sprayed bleach and water based on the recommendations of Bob Row the Township Health officer and have allowed the area to dry out. We have not decided on our next step and will likely wait until the next winter.

If you can get on his schedule, JGberkeley is great!
