We need a survey. The legal, stakes in the ground kind. Any referals?

Has anyone else found that the basic survey they got with the house(unstaked)is different from when you get out the measuring tape yourself?

It's hard to measure without exact points of reference and also two different surveys can have different results. I guess it's not as exact a science as we'd like. I would get in touch with the surveyor you used when you bought and get a quote there to start.

That's what we did....It wasn't too expensive because the work was half-done already.
The surveyor pretty much changed the date, noted a few minor things and rubber-stamped it. They give it to you on a disc nowadays and it is handy for landscaping as well!

When we bought our house the surveyor found stakes that had been hammered into the ground. I don't know if this would serve for legal purposes or not, but I suspect many houses have these. A little searching might pay off.

I can't even remember who did our original survey. And I have searched for the stakes.

So, can anyone recommend a survey company?

Find your mortgage and home ownership documents. It will literally be stapled right into the bunch of papers that detail your property.
