Bought this 50"x20" horizontal kitchen wall cabinet at Ikea. It's fairly heavy even when empty. The provided mounting brackets are interestingly enough about 46" apart, making difficult the task of hitting two studs that one would presume to be 48" apart -- and for the placement I want, I'd be surprised if either bracket aligns with a stud in the first place. Is it safe to use some sort of anchors or toggle bolts to hang this thing (the plaster is in good shape), or do I need to remove the back and run run some sort of strip of wood across the back for the thing to hang on? I'd love to avoid a hanging strip because the cabinet has a vertical divide in the center I'd have to skip over, but if I do go that route, how should I attach the cabinet to the strip? Angle brackets? This feels like it's getting ugly fast. Any tips? |

Most new cabinets have mounting strip(s) which you can screw through inside -- does yours? If so -- locate the studs, go that route. Otherwise -- I wouldn't trust anchors/toggle bolts to hold the cabinet up - in addition to a stud, ok, but not alone. /p |

IKEA wall cabinets are designed to mount to strips that are installed prior to hanging the cabinets. See here: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15576 &catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=34418&langId=-1&parentCats=15576*15720*157 26 |
