My wife and I are have a goal of starting our kitchen remodel next May/June. Two questions: 1. How early do we need to get on a designer/builders calendar? 2. Anyone use Home Depot for this? Got a flyer in the paper yesterday advertising their kithen design/installation services and wondered if they were any good and worth the look? Thanks. --brent |

Brent, if you need cabinets, PL me. I have the greatest cabinet maker and he'll save you $1000s. He's in Mississippi though! That didn't stop me and we are absolutely thrilled. |

Whatever you do, DO NOT use Home Depot. I have heard nothing but horror stories about their kitchen installation. I have heard good things about Jaeger Lumber in Union, but have not used them. We started the planning process for our kitchen addition late last August. We have just filed plans for permits and hope to break ground in early June. The process, once begun, will take 6 months from start to finish, or so I'm told. |

No HOME DESPOT!!! They mismeasured cabinets in my old house, sent out two guys who barely had a neuron between them, and were awful when cabinets had to go back. Book as much in advance as possible. Get a barbeque with a burner so you can cook outside as much as possible, stock your freezer with home-cooked meals that can be microwaved during the no-counter/faucet times...lay in a scrip for Xanax and make sure you have a good marriage counselor (should it apply - that one courtesy of Greenetree). The IKEA kitchen planners are free and pretty dang good. GOOD LUCK!!!

Jaeger Kitchens is a nice cross between accessible home improvement store and custom kitchen shop. We used the one in Madison for our new countertop. |

Another vote to stay away from Home Depot. We used Jaeger in Madison - Alison is the designer's name - and were happy. |

Just Cabinets in PA saved us thousands, literally. We got a solo guy to install, who did a superb job and we would highly recommend him. PL us if you're interested in knowing more. |
