My tiny inexpensive bathroom update has come to a halt b/c our quote for an off-center undermount sink granite vanity top has suddenly gone from the verbal quote of $353 to $580!

The vanity base is already ordered and needs a 37" long and 22" inch deep countertop with a backsplashh with the sink's drain being at 21 inches from the left side and the front right corner being rounded off so it isn't as painful to bump into.

I can't seem to master the MOL search feature, but I know others have recommended a great, fast granite place - I think Mill is in the name somehow. would greatly appreciate some recommendations and phone numbers.

Many thanks!

You might call All Granite & Marble Corp. in South Plainfield. They promise a 2-4 day turnaround time once the template has been done...and they say it's about two days to get a templater out to your house once you've picked your slab.

I am currently in a similar rush situation...long story....and I spoke to them this morning, coincidentally, about how fast they REALLY are (since their ads say they're the fastest around). The guy said they really can do the entire slab-to-installation process in under a week if you pick a stone that's in stock.

They are at 908 222 4000 or www.marble.com.

Good luck!

The Great Indoors has a reputation for being less expensive in the granit department than some others, but I don't know about speed. All Granite and Marble is definitely quick. Pick out the slab, they will be out to template in a day or so, and back for installation within another day or so.

There's a place across from the Home Depot. You can't miss it.They have slabs of granite outside the place. If you go down Valley before you make the right turn onto Rt 124 its right there. They have done some small things for us and are very nice. It's combined with a mirror place. Check it out.

Sherri -- will they work directly with consumers/ customers? You and Rich are contractors -- so I'd expect that? Do you think they'd be a place to look for new counters? --Pete

Arcade Marble&Granite on Central Ave in East Orange.Mario & Tobias Gallo do some pretty amazing things with stone. Most fabricators won't start without a template, which can't be done without the cabinet in place. This way they can scribe to a possibly crooked wall and such.Your post indicates that the base is ordered but not if it is on site.Depending on the material,580$ does not seem like a lot, although its 230$ more than the verbal quote.

THey may not have included cut-outs. My sink cut-outs added a hundred and change

All Granite did my stuff in two days. I went and picked it up.

Pete, the nature of my business never came up. Actually one of our customers wanted a black threshold for their bathroom. I priced it at Standard tile and they wanted something like $350.00 for a 4 inch by 36 inch piece. I went to these guys and got a piece cut and beveled for $90.00. Yes, why not check them out for counters. All the cutting etc is done right there. You could ask them if your contractor gives a re-sale number would the price be less. Then we could purchase it in your stead.

I agree with George H and Melicious. You need six square feet of granite and their is a charge for edging, especially if you go fancy and for the cut out. They also have to send somebody out to do the template and then the installation.

Thanks everyone!

And George H, you're right, but the main reason we decided to go with granite is b/c the quote was less than $100 more than the quote for "cultured marble" (i.e. plastic-type sink/counter combo). The reason I was told it would be so cheap is b/c this place has fairly thin granite and only offered about 4 choices of stone. They didn't fabricate from huge slabs, but smaller pieces. I wasn't really picky about the granite - just wanted a light brown color (it was called "wheat" which was fine.)

We didn't really have the budget to rip out all the old tile, etc., so we've planned to just replace the pink toilet, the pink sink and old tiny vanity, and reglazed the pink tub bisque.

If we can't find a really basic, inexpensive granite top we'll probably reconsider the cultured marble top. (Which isn't easy once you've gotten excited about the granite look. Oh well.)

The last time I checked with Arcade they weren't going out and doing templates. They might have been real busy at the time - but they are definitely good people. I have also used Passeri on Rt.10 and has done some nice marble vanity tops for me.

Don't know if you're still looking for the cultured marble option, but I got something similar via Janine at Central Kitchen & Bath. She's on Central Ave. in West Orange. I'm getting a cultured white marble vanity top with recessed bowl (31" x 22") for $198. Granted that includes my contractor's discount, but even at 30% increase (that's an estimate, I'm not entirely sure what the discount is), it's well below your granite, although your vanity is slightly longer. Just a suggestion....

NYC to M - First, welcome to MOL and thanks for your tip.

I actually am using Janine and it's her quote that skyrocketed. We did order the Toto toilet and vanity base through her. My cultured marble top quote was more than yours b/c I'm having it "customized" by not having the sink centered.

She's a nice lady, perhaps a bit stressed and disorganized, and her price for the same Toto toilet and a basic vanity cabinet (different manufacturer) were lower than The Bath Connection in Millburn, but her granite top price ultimately went WAY over The Bath Connection's quote for the SAME exact top from the same manufacturer - TBC quoted $490 and Janine's "discounted" price was way more than that. When I told her that she basically said oh well, that's what I was quoted.

Thanks for the welcome!

I didn't think about the "off center" aspect of your vanity, I guess that's a bigger deal than one would think. Since that's the case, then I 2nd (or 3rd?), All Granite and Marble. They're doing my kitchen and it was a pretty reasonable quote.

Good luck!!
