We're looking to put in CAC....if you have put it in recently could you please list any feedback concerning it on this thread.(i.e. cost, how many quotes you got and where yours fell in, quality of work, amount of time it took, any bad experiences that you may have had or heard of, etc. etc.

Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If search function is working, you should dig around. There has been quite a bit on this topic...

Air Group - most mentioned; considered the standard of sorts for high velocity systems

Custom Air - I've seen more attractive pricing posts about them and people seem satisfied

Both get mentioned a lot. I got what I thought was a high bid from Air Group, but was told it would be 20% lower in the off season. I didn't know about Custom Air.

We ended up with Edison Heating & Cooling in Plainfield (I think). They were cheaper but did what I think is a very professional job. I did get a 3rd estimate, but I've forgotten the provider now.

When comparing quotes, make sure you're getting apples to apples (or note differences). A big discrepancy is whether they're talking about a one-zone or two-zone system. We ended up with a 2-zone, which has a lot of benefits, but it is a whole lot more expensive. If they're suggesting 2-zone, have them explain why. I think a 1 zone would not have worked well for us because we have 3 floors we're air conditioning.

We had a new CAC (replacement) and a (replacement) gas furnace put in by Air Group last August & had super good service. I believe the salesman was Angelo & he seemed very trustworthy & I felt he didn't try to over-sell me. They were very nice about coming out to teach us how to work the thermostats again (my brain was elsewhere when I was supposed to be listening the first time) & made getting a rebate from NJ (for more efficient equiptment) very easy to do.
