Dishwasher just broke for sure, and it's time to get a new one...I'd love some suggestions on brand/styles that have worked out well. ($500ish range?) Thanks! |

We had very good luck with a mid-level Kenmore in our SO house. In our new house we have a GE Profile and while I'm sure that it is fancier and was more expensive, it is also tempermental. If I don't run $5-a-shot dishwasher cleaner through it periodically, it starts depositing junk inside the glasses on the top rack. |

Kitchenaid is the best domestic dishwasher for many years. My personal and professional experience with them has been totally positive. Also see JD Powers endorsement and available models with list prices: http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/category.jsp?categoryId=278 |

We got a Whirlpool Gold model, well rated by Consumer reports, under $500. You can subscribe to Consumer Reports online for 2.95 a month (and I don't think there's a minimum). I find it extremely worthwhile, as you can access archives. Things like major appliances they always update, so you can find good info anytime for a relatively small amount of $$$. Good luck |

last Feb, CR rated a best buy for this Kenmore, at around $500: Kenmore (Sears) 1603[2] . The only machines to rate higher were two Bosch dishwashers--we bought one of them about a month ago. |

Consumer Reports rates a Kenmore model 1603[2] $500.00 very highly. In their tests, only two Bosch washers were rated higher. One of those, Bosch SHU43C0[2], is approx $580.00. We have a Kenmore Elite with a stainless steel interior, that's been great, and very quiet. |

Many of the Kenmore Elites are by Bosch -- the "tall tub" ones are by Whirlpool (aka Whirlpool & Kitchenaid). Gardenweb appliances will offer you many more opinions -- be clear on your price range if you post (there are more than a few there who wouldn't think twice about spending $1500 on a DW!). http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/appl/ Frigidaires seem to have a good rep, too. /p |

get a Bosh. Absolutely quiet. I can talk on the phone in the kitchen and the washer is about 3 years old. We only got the basic model but it does such a great job; I would never get anything else. the basic model is not much more than $500. cecilia |

We have a Bosch and it is amazingly quiet. So much so that you barely notice that its on. |

Bosch is a great dishwasher if you want to buy a non-American product. Consumer's rates them the highest. I personally prefer Miele because it has the utensil tray on top which slides out. Miele also has awesome customer support. Noise is another personal issue, I need to hear my dishwasher. If you ask appliance dealers which is the quietest, they will say either Miele or Bosch invariably. But if you ask which is the best they will usually say Miele if you are not on a budget.I recommended Kitchenaid because it's within your price range and you can still get some good features at that price instead of buying the entry level Bosch. The lowest price I've seen for a Bosch is $600.00 You may want to go to Hometips for more information: http://www.hometips.com/cs-protected/guides/dishwasher.html PL me and I will tell you where to get the lowest price and tax in the area for any dishwasher.

has anyone had problems with their stainless steel tubs being damaged due to SO's hard water? |
