Has anyone ever changed their old wood entry door? Can you recommend a good place where to purchase a new wood door (not aluminum or any other material)for our entryway? Thanks jules |

There is a store called King of Belleville who had a very nice selection of round top doors when we were looking a few years ago. Be prepared though because a quality wooden door is going to be expensive. Plus they need lots of maintenance. For those reasons we wound up going with a steel door and we are very happy with our decision. http://www.kingofbelleville.com/vb-products.html |

IF you want a really nice looking wood front door for you home, yet you don't want any of the maintenance, investigate the many choices now available in fiberglass doors. I've seen many at the International Builders Show in Orlando this year. I had a hard time telling the difference between the fiberglass doors and the real wood ones. So of them are that good!

Yes, I know wood requires a lot of maintenance, but it does add character to the house. Thanks for the recommendations. |

You can buy Simpson doors at Jaeger. The doors that are architecturally right for this area have a lot of glass, so you should look at getting insulated glass with Low-E and Argon. You have to hunt around the Simpson website for the U-ratings, but the difference between insulated and uninsulated is fairly dramatic. There is also a dramatic difference between U-ratings of wood doors and those of fiberglass doors, which makes sense since wood is R-1 per inch while the foam interior for FG doors is probably about R-6 per inch. |
