So, you seek out a contractor to do work on your home, and....

a) they do not return your initial phone call.

b) they return the call, make an appointment and do not show up.

c) they show up, discuss the work, and say they will send written estimate, but never actually send said written estimate.

d) they send written estimate, which you sign and return, but you never hear from them again.

e) you come to terms with contractor, agree on work to be performed, and work is performed.

Used Xcel Renovations. Mike was great as a Contractor. Said and did what he promised!

I agree. No one can do everything perfectly. But why do contractors do this stuff more often than other business people?

F. Contractor provides estimate (after no showing twice), Accepts Deposit (provided right on time by homeowner), starts 6 months after promised, completes 1 months longer than planned, accepts final payment (provided right on time by homeowner), circles back and bills additional 20% for cost overruns.

BTW cost overruns should be negotiated BEFORE the extra work is done, unless it is otherwise stipulated in your contract.

And I have heard contractors discuss the fact that homeowners receive a quote from contractor A, but never call to let them know that they've selected contractor B for the job.

Not being informed that their bid was 2000% higher than everyone else, therefor not selected? That must truly be a massive inconvenience to a contractor....the horrors....the horrors.

I actually had a contractor that mailed me a estimate and didn't even come to my house to see what needed to be done.
