Just bought an older home with lots of 1970s wall-to-wall carpet. Want to pull it up and expose the hardwood floors underneath.

We've tried to take up the carpet in a few of the rooms, but it's a lot of work. They used lots of staples to hold down the foam underneath, and it's a pain in the rear to pull them out. (The tackboards aren't too bad...just the darn staples)

Anyone know of anyone who can do this kind of removal for us? We'll dispose of them, just need someone to provide the actual labor.

Isn't that the worst job? I've done a lot of it too and it is THANKLESS. I finally hired some clean-out company from the yellow pages to do the last of the rooms -- not Fred Hodges, but I be he does that work too.

NJguy--You probably figured this out since it sounds like you have already taken up some of the carpet but whomever you hire to take up the staples will need to use some amount of care as it will impact how your floors look once they are refinished (if you are refinishing them). We did this work ourselves and it was really dirty, sweaty work. Good luck!

Get yourself one of these and it will be a lot easier

When all the crap is piled up (throw it out a window), call Fred Hodges to cart away.
