Question for the group....we have a small front Vestibule on top of our front steps leading into our Front door. Because of the location at the top of the steps, the prior homeowner elected to have the storm door open INWARD (towards the inside of the house) which makes for a very awkward motion going in and out of the house. I am thinking about switching this around, because it's downright awkward, but that would leave me with an outward swinging door on top of our 4 front steps. I think I can live with that, but when I mention it to people bidding the project, they opine that it would be a problem for people coming up the steps. I don't think it will be as big of a problem as my current situation, but I'm not sure. Thoughts? |

OUr first house had this condition. There was no landing at the top of the stairs and opening the storm door was tricky and uncomfortable to do. We eventually replaced the brick steps with wood ones and with a platform at the top so you could stand to the side when you opened the storm door. |

We have the same situation. We have steps up from the driveway, then a landing, and then a three steps up right into the vestibule. When we changed the storm door, we actually chose to have it swing outward, can't remember why. I think it was because the door handles were designed that way. But, we did switch the side of the swing by moving the hinges from one side to the other. On the old door, it opened to the right so visitors had to climb the steps and then kind of get around the door because they approach the house from the right. On the new door it opens to the left, so when folks approach from the right, the door isn't in the way. |

We've actually kicked around putting the storm flush agains the door, so it opens intoe the vestibule, and leave the vestibule as an open entrance, with no storm door.....thoughts? |
