Does anyone know if this is a particularly bad year for ants? We did have some trouble with ants in the kitchen last summer, due to rotted, wet wood under a glass slider to our deck.
This summer, they're starting again, but in different places. We now have some getting into our front vestibule... and we seem to have a huge number of small anthills in our front yard.
Any ideas to keep them from getting in? I'm assuming that the large number outside, and those inside are related.

Thanks!

Are the ones inside rather large and black?

Actually, no. They're quite small and reddish-brown.
