Can you recommend a tile store in the area? We are in a big rush to pick something out for our kitchen

Standard Tile on Route 10. Good selection and some useful displays..although mostly of bath applications. If you can manage it, avoid visiting tile stores on Saturdays as they are very busy.

The big box stores like Lowes also have a variety of tiles and you can pick up everything you need right there.

Thanks. I guess every location is different because I went to the Standard Tile on Route 46 West and the salesperson talked me into a tile that was WAY over our budget (and she knew what our budget was) and then neglected to tell me that what we chose needed a $500 sealing treatment. I feel so duped.

I think Artistic Tile in Paramus has beautiful tile and a very big selection. You can check out their website at www.artistictile.com. If you just want to be inspired, check out www.walkerzanger.com and www.annsacks.com.

I think Jasco has a very limited selection and not much to offer in the way of "new and innovative" - but I guess it depends what you're looking for.

Not fancy, but a good selection, great prices and knowledgeable staff, Jasco Tile on the center island of Route 22 in Union.

Mnewbie, I agree with you that the Standard Tiles at different locations are different. My kitchen and bath contractors liked to deal with the one on Route 10, but warned us away from the one on Rt. 22. The key difference seems to be quality of service--and, in your case, integrity of service too.

When I looked at tiles that required sealing the sales people were quite up-front about the extra steps involved. Hope it all worked out with your prior tile job.

Virtue Tile in Summit is by far the best tile store we have come across. Really unusual (and huge) collection, as well as the ann sachs, etc. you expect to find.

We're looking for something simple, but have struck out 2x on finding it.

1" white hexagon tile (glazed). This will replace our original 192? 1" inch white hexagon tile (unglazed - if I'm using that term correctly, we want the new to be the kind that can look clean).

I've found smaller sized tile and 1" in other colors and with textures, but not the plain jane 1" white glazed.

Any ideas?

Newark Tile is a good suggestion for the thread starter.

However, they do not carry and can not order the tile I describe above from the manufacturers they work with.

I'm bumping to keep this question out there...need to pull trigger soon.

Thanks.

Jasco has the 1" hex tile in white. They also carry the traditional unglazed porcelain hex tile. If you want a real bargain, a quirky place you might want to try is World of Tile, also on rte. 22- they have a very wacky showroom- but you can find some real gems at great prices. I'm pretty sure they carry the 1" white hex...

We got that at the place on Valley, International Tile, right next to the SO Storage Place. Not sure if they are still open, (Last I saw I thought they had cabinets in there) but their prices were fair and we were able to get basic white glazed subway and hex tiles.

World of Tile is also a great place to match existing tile should the plumber get carried away with the Sawzall. :-)

OP here... We went to the standard tile in Edison last night and had a wonderful experience. They were so nice and smart and we were able to make our decision quickly.
Thanks for all of the help!

I have heard that Central Bath and Kitchen will begin carrying tile on July 1st (OK, I saw it on a big sign on their front door). I used them for my Kitchen rehab last year and they were great (ask for Jeanine), but they didn't handle tile back then. . .

Place across from blimpie seems to be a storefront for a kitchen re-do guy. I went in asking for spacers, he came back after a few minutes with a box and when I asked price he gave a price on the high side of normal retail. When I asked about that his response was that he was more of a contractor than a retailer. Fair enough. But it doesn't seem like much of a retail place. Right or wrong that's the impression I got. That was in January. If I'm mistaken, let me know. Wouldn't want to be disseminating false info on the guy, he seemed ok.

We found 1" hex tile at Meditteranean tile on route 46 in Clifton. It is such a great look. We also renovated a 192? bathroon with the hex tiles, pedestal sink, etc.

We looked everywhere within a 30 mile radius of Maplewood, We chose Standard Tile in Wayne on RT 46, There was a young salesman Danny who helped us with tile for our kitchen & our bathroom. We bought what we wanted, and weren't forced to get a sealer, or something over our budget.
