Is there any reason why I should not paint pressure treated wood? I would use latex paint. |

Pressure treated lumber is made from southern yellow pine which is crap wood. It splits and cracks. Latex paint lays on top of the wood and the splitting allows water to become trapped in the grain of the wood leading to mold and algae buildup. Best to apply a waterproofing treatment which is absorbed into the wood and slows the checking and cracking and repels water. |

New pressure treated wood, or "seasoned" (ie 1-2 years old) |

If you want to cover the wood use a full bodied stain. See the current Consumer Reports for ratings. |
