We've inherited a 62 x 36" piece of framed stained glass from the previous owners that they thought may have been original to the house. We'd like to find a place, preferably nearby, where we could have it restored. Also, we'd like to find somewhere in our house to hang it but are not sure whether we have any other options besides the walls. We'd appreciate any advice about where we should go, how we could transport the glass without breaking it and how costly something like this could be.

There's a place in Brooklyn, I forget the name. The guy once gave a talk to the SO historical society. I called him once -- he told me $200/square foot to restore stained glass. Search the archives.

We used a place in New Jersey that is very good.

They built some leaded glass windows to my design and repaired some others. They will visit your house if needed and then they can carefully package and take away the window that needs to be worked on. I was impressed with their professionalism and they did a great job for us.

Their name is J&J Stained Glass (or something similar) and I think they were in Clifton, NJ... I will try and find thier number for you.

Opulent Glass (on Valley in SO), did a great job repairing leaded/stained glass for me (probably 24' x 30"). But it was not "old" glass. Were able to match perfectly, redo leading, etc.

The propreitors are great -- but that's a large piece of glass -- if you can't drive it over to them, ask one of them to stop by and see how they can help you.

Thanks, everyone. kmk, I would appreciate that phone number very much. And peteglider, if you could send me the number for Opulent Glass, that'd be great, too.

A third. They repaired our long-neglected and borken stained glass window in situ. Can't tell the old from the new now.
