I have a BIG old, 60 years+, Maple tree behind my garage. It is 2/3 on my ground and 1/3 on my neighbors, behind their garage. Problem it is leaning on my garage. Suggestions please. |

There have been postings on this topic before... I believe what you are describing is a 'border tree' - my understanding is that both neighbors need to be responsible for this tree. Kind of a good news/bad news thing - I guess you'd normally split the cost of removal, but you'd have to agree to remove the tree. Speaking purely for myself, I'd be VERY reluctant to cut down a large old maple tree... but if its leaning against your garage, that's a different story. Are you on good terms with those neighbors? Is it something you could simply bring up to them? Again, just my opinion but it sounds like removing the tree is purely for your benefit... which leads me to think that you may be picking up the bill for this one. |

I have never met these folks. I am on one street and they are on another. I will let Maplewood Tree make suggestions. |

You can always take your garage down to force the issue. |

Maple trees are not long-lived trees. If it is showing signs of age, have it removed before it starts dropping branches during storms. Sad as it is to see grand old trees go, they don't last forever. |
