Hi. I have a deck that is rotting away rapidly and needs to be replaced. The footings are solid and can be used for the rebuilt deck. I basically want the old deck reconstructed in size and shape, on the original footings. Can someone recommend someone(s) who I might contact about getting estimates/getting the work done?

Thanks!

Hi, MB,

We just had a cedar deck built by Freeborne Decking out of Randolph and are very happy: Smooth, quick and looks great. They took care of the permit and scheduling inspections, as well. http://www.freebornedecking.com, 973-366-8333.

Good Luck,

Isn't it awesome? I keep opening the door just to inhale the cedar aroma, just like a big, open-air humidor

Cheers,

Cedar is the way to fly! We're building one for a customer in Long Valley / Schooleys mountain and I love it. It makes me wish I had one too.

Only drawback is that cedar is what,30-40% more and that carpenter bees love to bore into it.That 30-40% is for clear 5/4 decking.I think you can get STK,[select tight knot]a little cheaper. The Canadian tariffs have really banged the prices over the past year or so.

5/4 x 6 cedar goes about $1.02 a LNF or $2.04 a sq. ft. + tax. Cedar goes a long, long way...... Call blue ridge lumber in Hackettstown for pricing if interested.

I just paid .95/LF for 5/4 x 6 ACQ, so that cedar price is great. Is it for clear?

You still have to use ACQ for the framing. I guess the key is to use blocking as you would when framing a floor.

Yes, it is for cedar.
