Try Lowes. I believe they charge $100 for installation plus the cost of the door, which varies by model and if it is a custom job or not. |

Bob, in your experience with Lowes, are they able to handle various door situations? I'd hate for them to come out and say "Normally this is $100....for you, it's $800" |

I am learning a lot of things in this business. #1 is "Things ALWAYS take longer than you think". Especially with all of our old houses, nothing is ever square. To put in a regular (even pre-hung) door, it takes from 4-5 hours (I couldn't believe it myself). A storm door can also be tricky. Definitely the $1200 is outrageous. If you can get Lowes for $100.00 then I would grab it. Even if it comes out to $200.00 it is a bargain. |

We have had Lowes install 2 storm doors within the last year or so (both by the Lowes in Woodbridge since it was before the Union store opened). Installation is a flat $145, I believe. Never had an installer try to negotiate the fee since we pay Lowes and he gets paid by them. We even had an issue once with a door and the installer came back to check out the problem and then returned a couple of weeks later with parts (took a couple of weeks since the parts had to be ordered). There was no charge for that work. The installer comes out to measure, you go to the store to pick out your door, pay for everything then the installer calls to schedule once the door is in (ours were custom). We are waiting for a 3rd to be installed. The last 2 times we got calls from Lowes along the way so there would be plenty of opportunity to complain if there were issues. I recommend them for storm door installation.

We bought an Andersen storm door thru Home Depot this spring and got installation done thru them as well. We used the Union HD which I wouldn't do again, because they were quite disorganized, but once the door came in, it was a breeze. The installer was great, and had it done in about 2 hrs. I think the installation fee was around $140. |

Smarty, that is a normal installation. If I recall you have a storm door that opens in and that may complicate things, especially if you want to change the direction. I have never used Lowes, so the number I mentioned is from their ads in the Sunday Ledger. |

We used Lifetime Aluminum in East Hanover. Speak to David. Our door wasn't cheap ($800), but we went with a custom Rolls-Royce sort of thing. |

A second recommendation for David at: Lifetime Aluminum Storm Window Corporation 162 Mount Pleasant Avenue East Hanover, NJ 07936-3517 Phone: (973) 887-1900 We had an oversized door and David came to the house, to be sure we got the right fit.

I did my own on the back of the house with a decent insulated door from HD. Took all day, and I had to change the opening size because the previous door had been a slightly oversized custom fit. Total pain, but it cost $180 soup to nuts. |

I used HG Edwards for replacement windows and was very pleased. I have no doubt that they'd probably do an excellent job on a storm door replacement. For our storm door, I used Artcraft Window & Door on Northfield Rd in Livingston - Phone: (973) 994-7443. They took a lot longer than I thought it would, but the end result was quite good for a fair price. |

We had our new front door installed by Lowes, and they did a good job. Before you actually purchase the door, they will send someone out to look at the house and make measurements. That way, you'll know if there are any special issues BEFORE you spend your money. The measurement fee is about $30, which is applied to the cost of the door. BTW, our door was a non-standard size, which required some extra cost for installation. |
