I have hardwood floors throughout my house. The floors downstairs and beautiful with the exact shades of dark chocolate brown but is certainly IMperfect. I've heard horror stories so I don't want to resand/restain the floors because we love them as they are. So those floors just need a coat of polyeurethane (we can maybe do that ourselves??)

Upstairs though, the floors are stained and caked with paint spatter and the floors an ugly lite orangy color and there seems to be alot of wood filler in some parts...also the moulding throughout the house is either stained with paint or years of dirt or whatever. Also our stairs are in decent shape but they are yet another color (blondish, yellowy,)

I mention all of this because the hardwood floors are what attracted me to the house and color is going to matter VERY MUCH TO ME so does anyone know someone reliable (and yes, of course, reasonably price because money is too an object) to do this kind of work?

i had claudio russo install a new floor in 2 rooms and refinish the remainder of the first floor. thought he did a great job, and was pretty reasonable when we added it all up. he had a range of color choices when he poly'd the new section so you might have similar options when refinishing.

i can provide his number if you're interested.

We got a recommendation for Claudio from this board. He did a sand/stain/poly on our 4 bedrooms upstairs & did a light sand/poly on our kitchen. He chose a stain for the bedrooms which was a perfect match for the hallway (which had been re-done more recently.) He was fast, reasonable & reliable. We highly recommend him.

Three votes for Claudio. He did our stairs and second floor and matched our first floor stain perfectly. Also, we didn't do our bedroom b/c we needed a place to put all of the furniture- but he was fine with doing it in 2 steps for us. He was a pleasure to deal with and there was very little dust through the house (less than I ever expected!)

Claudio gets my vote also. Sanded, refinished, and stained approx 800 sf. Laid a brand new oak floor in a 13 X 6 den. He did a great job. He courteous, reliable, and the price was very reasonable...

Ok, well so far I've got only one recommendation. . .Claudio! LOL So I will give him a call. Does anyone have the phone number?

HKing - i have no clue how much this type of thing costs. I have 3 small/med sized rooms and a narrow hallwy and stairs. Can you give me an idea of what I can expect to pay since your job was very similar??

Another option is Alpine Floors, they are out of Jersey City & Hoboken, but they are in Maplewood alot. They have done all my neighbors floors and they all rave about them. I having them and Claudio qoute mine presently. Alpine has already qouted and waiting on Claudio. Alpine is ver accomodating and can get it done in a week or two if needed. We used Mark
