Does anyone have any recs for the above mentioned services? And, what's the going rate for each?

I looked into radiators a few years back - the Carriage house in Summit does it for $30 a "rib" - they strip and re-paint with special heat-conducive paint, I'm thinking of doing a few rads this year - we have radiator covers on all of our (really pretty) radiators, supposedly the covers really cut down on the efficiency.

Wolley Charles of Tech Finishing in Belleville sandblasts and refinishes old radiators too. He is a charming man and a former Maplewood resident. He charges by the loop or rib, but I don't remember how much. The biggest issue is getting the radiator to him and picking it up afterward. Those things are heavy!

We had most of our doors stripped when we moved in 6 years ago. We had one person with a van remove them (all hardware removed), and deliver them to the stripper. It was done in Hackensack by a place that does just that -- Dip 'n' Strip (201) 487-1115. At the time it was $80/door just for the stripping. Then we had someone else pick them up and refinish and deliver them. Warning: not all of the wood on the doors in our house was the same. The dark staining camouflaged that, and although we like the look of the lighter doors, the differences show up (hardwood for the hardware only, etc.) You can PL me and come over to see if you like.

I had ours sandblasted by a company in Newark for $50 per radiator. I had to deliver it and pick it up afterwards.

Star Princess, did you have to remove the hardware from the doors? Our is painted over as well and I'd like it stripped too.

i just spoke to someone at ESS and he does not recommend me stripping doors with a single middle panel. That it's too thin and could warp. Star what is your door like that you are having stripped?

i've used carriage house for one door to be stripped but it cost $250 for one. they do it by hand where ESS does it by chemical dip.

i too am curious to see how it comes out.

I used Tech Metal Refinishing in Belleville/Newark about 4 or 5 years ago. I had to drop it off and pick it up. I can't remember the total cost, but it was significantly less than another place I called. The number is (973) 751-9557. I believe the owner is named Wooley.

Out of touch - so sorry for the delay.

Picked up the doors (5 total). Turns out they were yellow pine. They are a six panel door. Most came out OK but 2 doors apparently had cracks in a panel (who knew under all that paint?) - if there is a crack then the stripping chemicals get in so I now have 2 doors that have some pretty bad warping on one of the panels. The guy at Eastern Star explained how to fix it - seems very simple but I'm just nervous enough to call in a professional (anyone know a good woodworker?)

I also had one shutter done which came out great and I'm taking 3 more shutters to Eastern tomorrow.

Would I use them again? You betcha!
