I have a regular brick fireplace that has built in shelves on one side and wraps around to a plain regular wall on the other side. The mantel that is there currently resembles a bookshelf of sorts with hooks screwed into it (for Xmas stockings I'm sure. . .) I don't know if fireplaces come in standard sizes, or can you buy a mantel "off the rack" or does it have to be custom made, or if I can find one at a salvage place or what. I've seen a few online (see att.) that are over $1000 !!! Just curious if that is the going price or if those are "high end" or what? And who would install that type of thing? Any contractor? |

Cwalk, there is a thread from a week or so ago on the subject of mantels and I would suggest taking a look for it. |
