I'm finally going to finish renovating our attic. So far we have sheetrocked and painted all ceilings and walls. The attic had some water damage prior to us moving in and prior to the roof being redone in 2004. We ripped up the old carpet and padding when we moved in last October. Currently there are some sheets of plywood above the main planks that are "soft" due the water damage. We plan to install wall to wall carpeting. Here are three scenarios: 1 - Rip up the softened plywood and replace the damaged plywood 2 - Install a new layer of plywood over the entire area including the softened plywood 3 - Simply install the carpet padding above everything as is, then lay the carpet. What do you suggest I do? Thanks... |

Since the damaged plywood is installed over the existing subfloor you may find that the plank subfloor is also damaged from the water and may have to replace that as well.
