I need some help with landscaping and stones. It's hard work but not that hard, and relatively unskilled labor would suffice. Anyone have a son, themselves or an acquaintance to recommend? Otherwise, what's the story on getting someone off the street (for lack of a better term.) Where is the pickup spot these days, what is the going rate, what is the window of opportunity time wise (early mornings are tough) and any tips on picking a winner and overcoming language issues? |

Local, If you go early...I'd say by 7am there are at least 75-100 day laborers on Scottland Road. Cross over South Orange Ave heading towards Orange. Just before the White Castle you will see them congregating on the left hand side of the street. It does help to speak the language however but usually there is a guy who speaks english and can translate to the people what the job is. Usually $10 hour and they want to work for at least 8 hours plus lunch. If you can split the work with a neighbor if you think that your job will be less than a full day that would help They will usually pass on your offer if you cant at least offer them close to a full days pay. Those workers congregate there because there is a Labor Ready office there.
