The retaining wall we need would be relatively short in height but longer in length. It is holding back alot of soil though, so we know that the wall needs to be done right (the makeshift concrete blocks we put there have all tumbled and fallen away).

My husband and I have thought about tackling this project ourselves, but we are just plum tired and don't have the patience or time to try and from researching it on the internet, it simply seems like a pain and no fun at all.

Who would do a small project like this without charging 2 arms and a leg?

Good Luck. We quoted a job like this in the early Spring, using wall block. (Railroad ties are cheaper but will rot over time.) Started off at about 6k using the least expensive stone, went up to almost 8k when we cut back a few projects. We ended up buying a nicer stone (techo-bloc) and my husband did the majority of the work himself, had a few guys from work help him out to start. We spent about 3k on the materials, for a wall 92 feet long ranging from about a foot to 2 feet high. We bought the stone from Curley in West Caldwell or Verona, on Bloomfield Ave.

Try Carmine's Landscaping here in Maplewood and also a sponser on this website. They just finished a big project on Crestwood dr. with railroad ties and pavers, also natrual stone walls in front on the hill, it looks beautiful and well built. I think the address is 30 Crestwood Dr. take a look. From what I saw they were very professional and took time to install everything perfect, clean as well. The natural stone walls look great unlike some of the walls I seen just thrown up.
