Hi all, I'm in the middle of getting four estimates to have my roof replaced. Home Depot's price is very competitive and they will use same or superior materials as the other companies. Has anyone had any experiences with Home Depot for roofing? |

HD's price was not very competitive by a long shot when we had our roof replaced. It was easily three times the average of the others. We couldn't get the guy out of our house fast enough. I'm really surprised -- all HD really does is subcontract to a local roofer, scare you with some sort of "guarantee" that implies your local roofer -- the same roofer they'll subcontract to -- is going to skip out on you, and then jack up the price accordingly. We used Scott's Roofing and had no problems, I believe it's been about 5 years so far and no trouble at all. Why not work directly with the people doing the work? There are several local roofers who have been in business for years.

I've found Home Depots prices for fence/roof stuff not competitive - go direct with a local. For a small flat roof we used Pintona - our friends used R&G for a bigger job. We're all happy and dry! |

One more estimate has come in. It is about half the amount that Home Depot and another roofer quoted. I have one more company coming on Monday. I'm amazed at the disparity in price. |
