I had the asbestos around the pipes in the basement professionally removed. Should I re-insulate them with another material, or just leave them alone? |

It's usually a good idea to replace the insulation with at least ½" thick fiberglass. Where and how to buy it was discussed at length last year and you might want to do a search to find those archived threads. Good luck. Master Plvmber |

I reinsulated the pipes with fiberglass sleeves; skip the Home Depot for that, they only had two sizes (too small and too big). Go to a real plumbing supply store. My neighbor the plumber recommended All State Plumbing State in East Orange. It's not a glamorous location or warehouse, but they have a ood selection, decent prices and were very friendly. Use gloves, long sleeves, and a mask when working with this stuff. I cut it to size with a hack size (commonly used for cutting metal pipes). It's very itchy when you get it on you (and you will). All State Plumbing is at (973) 677-1710.

Thanks for the tip about the fiberglass source. And I just had my first hack saw experience as I had to cut down and upright metal pole that was part of chain link fence. A mulberry tree in my backyard was growing over the pole and crushing the garage roof. Before the mulberry could come down, the metal pole had to go. |
