Is it customary/appropriate to tip professional painters for a job well done? If so, how much? Thanks |

??? you mean like tipping cows maybe ???? But seriously, you contracted/established a price for the project, right? That's the price. Period. Do you give Exxon more after the gas is pumped, or maybe flip the station attendant a buck? Do you pay more to Dunkin Donuts for that coffee & bagel after served, or slip the counterhelp some change? If you feel obligated to give the workers themselves something for their effectiveness or efficiency, I suppose you could.... ('cause they're probably not receiving part of the 'profit' that the boss/owner does make on jobs). But generally.... tipping???? for a contracted work project??? No..... |

ENOUGH with all the tipping....this isn't Manhattan - totally unnecessary and unexpected. If they go above and beyond the work contracted for (like move the grand piano to the attic for you or haul off your collapsed garage for no extra charge), then a tip is nice. |

If they do a good job for you and you are grateful and want to tip then certainly tip. I had my house painted this summer and tipped the workers $50 a piece. They arent paid much and for the kind of days they are putting in its a nice gesture. |

I agree with Hoops... especially if they're working in this HOT weather! When we had our house painted last year, we gave them $500 (there were a bunch of guys that worked on the house). Maybe not necessary, but they did great work and I'm sure they don't get paid enough for doing it!!! |

You could also bring them lots of ice water, sunscreen, coffee and perhaps donuts--they'd probably appreciate that too. |

I think $500 is crazy but hey if you've got the money good for you. I was around a lot when we had our house painted a few weeks ago - I gave the guys lemonade, fresh fruit etc everyday and occasionally a beer at the end of the day. We only had 1 guy that was there the whole time (the rest of them were rotating) and I tipped him $50. |
