How long should one last? Here's the situation: The frig is at least 8 years old and now I have a drip in my basement underneath it. Do I just need to clean some filter? Should I just buy a new frig? Do I need to call the plumber? |

Do you have water/ice maker? That tubing could have a leak. Often new refrigerators don't last much longer than 10 years however. |

Do you have a water line for an ice maker or for cold water? If so, that could be the source of your problem.See if you can't ease the fridge away from the wall where you can get behind it.You might want to protect the floor with a dropcloth,or better yet, some thin 1/4" luan ply.I think you can pick up a 2'x4' pc. at the depot. You can than use a utility knife to cut it to 1'x4'and use each pc.under each wheel. After the fridge is away from the wall, wipe everything down and check your connections. This is also a great opportunity to vaccuum your coils and the rear of the unit which should improve efficency. Also check your drip pan by pulling the toe kick pc. off in front. With all this humidity it might be overflowing. In fact,I would start there as thats the easiest fix. |

thanks all. that makes sense. I'm certain the house will need a new frig but I'd like to put that off for a while. |
