This is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. After all the rain, and with the constant threat, or worry, of potential water in our basement, I was checking out all the baseboards. I see a 4"-5" sprig of something growing right behind my baseboard heater, right next to the door that leads to outside.... what the hell???? Then, checked a kind of crawl space, and see 2 probably 8" high sprigs that are literally just coming right out of the side of the basement brick wall (which at that point looks like it's caulked rather than pointed - but is below where the driveway meets the wall... I don't even know what my question is, besides - WHAT THE *(&(*&^????? |

Usually this happens when a vine on the outside of the house sends a shoot through an opening in the wall or foundation. Do you have enough light in this location to support plant growth? If not, then it must have come from outside. |

You can get arrested for growing weed in your basement. |

Eventually the vines will destroy the wall. They should be removed from the outside and the wall repointed and rebuilt where needed. |

(which at that point looks like it's caulked rather than pointed - but is below where the driveway meets the wall... Sounds like you do have a crack in your foundation, and a previous homeowner just caulked it rather than fix it using mortar. I think you want to start with a mason (rather than a waterproofer). |

Yeah, I called Avellino - they're coming today. I do think it's a masonary thing - in order to get rid of the vines, it would mean ripping up the driveway, which I can't imagine having to do... |

Roundup will get rid of the vines along with every other plant you spray. |
