As exotic as the name may sound, I'm convinced that it is the Asian Tiger Mosquito feasting on my wife and I everytime we set foot in our backyard. That is unless we douse ourselves with bug spray which of course is a real pain. They are an invasive species which has in recent years spread to NJ. (Lucky us!) These bugger's have a distinct look to them as they have striped legs. I've swatted enough of them to see that they look just like the picture.
From what I've read they are not easy to get rid of and they feed during daylight which makes them even more enjoyable. Does anyone use one of those traps called "Mosquito Magnet" or something similar? These are the ones that use propane to work along with an attractant. I was wondering how well thay work as they are ridiculously expensive. |

I know someone who uses one of these, and she loves it. She says that it has to run all the time, and for about 6 weeks before you notice the great results. The one she has runs by both propane and electricity, though I don't understand why. Unfortunately, when the power goes out for a good amount of time, she has to start all over again - 6 weeks non-stop. I believe there are different sizes for the amount of space you want to protect. |

I run one. We got it last summer and it seems to work. The electricity is used to run the fan. The propane and "Octenol" which is the bait attract the insects. Each 20 gallon propane tank last 21 days. You must replace the Octenol as well. It runs 24/7. Mine covers about a 1/4 acre. We purchased it at Costco. I think int was $225-230?? |

I happily used a Coleman "Mosquito Deleto" but this year it won't work - it was much cheaper than a true "Magnet" but is has failed us in year three. Our property is so small that it is almost silly to buy a mosquito trap, but they do provide a lot of relief and you're doing your neighbors a kindness they don't even realize when you own one. (Hope you live near us!) |

Do those things work just for mosquitoes, or do they also work for the little gnats that seem to bite as well? |

I have used a mosquito magnet since the first year that the product was developed. IT WORKS!!!!!!! You have to understand the air flow in your yard or area to cover, but once you get that under control, the unit works. Want bags of mosQuitos for proof? Later, George |
