I found this online and thought it might be an interest to many who have to replace their sidewalks. I don't know if we're able to use them here, however since they've been tested around the county in major cities (including next door in Newark), they might be an option for us. http://www.rubbersidewalks.com/ Article on Yahoo!: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060726/ap_on_re_us/rubber_sidewalks |

Initially looked cool to me. I do like that it would be kinder to the body to walk on and helps with recycling BUT I have to question the expense. They say in one place that they cost about 3X a regular sidewalk but that is offset by the fact that they last longer. Then later on they say that they last seven years or longer!!! My sidewalks were not new when I moved in 25 years ago and they seem OK to me. Seven years does not seem like a bargain. And it would look nicer if you could get a whole neighborhood to switch at a time (and maybe get some kind of discount?). But for only seven years? I guess I'm having trouble getting past that. |
