I am moving into a older home and I need to have the original windows replaced, due to lead paint issues. Can anyone recommend someone for this? I don't even know where to begin to look. Thanks. |

http://www.oldfashionedwindows.com/ There has been more discussion on MOL of this topic quite recently than anyone could possibly want to read, so look back a for more information. I'm using the company referenced above, but it's not a done deal yet, so I cannot tell you much. Much of the MOL discussion gets a bit heated because people argue over whether vinyl window replacements fair poorly (aesthetically speaking) vs. wood windows (more expensive). You can also have the windows refinished. I guess if you already moved in, you may not want to do this, but if you have time to get this done before moving, it's an alternative (also very expensive).

I just picked up my new wood true divided 6 light casement window and a cellar window from Old Fashioned Windows and they are beautiful!!! Reasonably priced and good quality. Can't recommend them enough. I would strongly recommend that you have the windows stripped and repainted rather than replaced. You can't beat the originals. Any good paint company can do this work - just make sure they follow the lead abatement guidelines. PS - I do not work in any window related industry. |
